According to linguists, after people have spent around 2,000 hours in learning a new language, they can then communicate with others in that language. If the time is over 3,000 hours, they become very fluent. That’s why babies start to speak around 2 or 3 years old and get fluent around 4 or 5.

How many hours did you study English? Don’t worry if your hours have not been that long. You are not an English native-speaker. People know about that. You don’t need to be a native speaker. If you are a businessman, working 40 hours per week, it should be possible for you to practice one hour or per day for one year – and you will then be able to communicate smoothly with your counterparts in English. Your goal is to communicate in English, not to be an English expert.
