Differences between British and American English

Most people know that British and American English have quite a few differences, and in some cases these differences are becoming more pronounced as time goes on. . Most Americans recognize this on their first day of a trip to the United Kingdom. Robert Burchfield, the editor of the Oxford Dictionary, has expressed his belief that the English in the two countries may be totally different languages in 200 years since they are rapidly drifting apart.

Don’t worry too much – there is quite a bit of time between now and 200 years from now. As a foreign language student, you just need to notice there are some different words between the two English dialects. In fact, people in the world invent and use their own style English such as Italian style, Spanish style, Singlish and Korean style – though they are not used universally!
